ICAS/CAS pay tribute to Robert (Bob) Ellicott (Australia)

The International Council of Arbitration for Sport (ICAS) and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mr Bob Ellicott, former CAS arbitrator, at the age of 95.

Bob Ellicott was among the most active CAS arbitrators in Oceania during his membership period (1995-2018). First known in Australia as the holder of ministerial offices (Attorney-General 1975–1977, Minister for Home Affairs 1977–1981), he retired from politics in 1981 to be appointed to the Federal Court of Australia (1981 to 1983). He then practiced as a Queens Counsel. He has been a long standing member of the IAAF (now World Athletics) Arbitration Panel. As a CAS arbitrator, he has been a member of several CAS ad hoc Divisions for Olympic Summer and Winter Games and Commonwealth Games events.

Bob Ellicott was among the pioneer sports lawyers and sports arbitrators in the world. He will be remembered for his fine legal analysis, his sound judgment and his engaging personality. The ICAS President & Members, as well as the CAS Director General and CAS personnel present their deepest condolences to Mr. Ellicott’s family, colleagues and friends.
